My Therapy

This week has been pretty tough, I took a good vacation for Veterans day weekend so getting back to work and school had me in a funk. This week was especially busy at work because corporate came down and we had to “be on our best behavior” and all that nonsense.

But then I saw this assignment, and going to a spot to hang out and relax for 30 minutes was something I really needed. So, I decided to go to the beach and just relax, listen to a bit of music and smoke a cigar or two. And it was perfect.

The day started pretty good because on the way to the beach I noticed that they cleaned up and repainted the bridge to get around to the water/boat dock. The weather was clear and hearing the wind blowing through the trees above me was really relaxing.

Walking that bridge was great, you could smell the fresh paint from where they had just made it look brand new. But stepping off and seeing the water was really therapeutic, because even though it was windy, the water was as flat and looked like glass.

The water looked so calm, there were no waves and no boats to disturb the peace. Smelling the salt and feeling the wind coming off the water is something I'll cherish forever.

On the way to the beach I picked up a few rocks found in the woods to skip across the water. Hearing the splashes and seeing how far I could skip those rocks really put a smile on my face, it’s like I was a kid again.

For it being the fall, the weather was perfect, 63 degrees with a nice wind was something I’ll take every day/all day. The flowers were blooming but they were not as alive as they would be in the summer. There were flocks of birds flying over the water but the wind blocked out the sounds.

I put on my music and lit a cigar and just sat at the end of the dock with my feet dangling off. The smoke from the vanilla cigar was everywhere and when it connected with the water it would just disappear

A family showed up around 20 or 30 minutes after being there and their kids were playing, making sandcastles. With the kids playing, I put my headphones back on and just listened to music for another half hour or so, and just enjoyed the scenery.

Sitting there had me forget about all my personal, and world problems. I just was there, in the moment, with no worries. It was a real therapeutic experience, and best of all, it was didn’t cost me any money.

Taking a quote form one of the greatest movies of all time, “Hakuna matata.”
