Walking the Beach

Walking the beach is one of the most breathtaking and therapeutic things to do. So, over the past week, I been walking Navarre beach and also walked down the Navarre Pier.

My journey started at the pier and my first few steps across the wood was like walking through a portal to another world. Fishermen and women were lined up to my left and to my right, I heard music playing and the sound of spinning reels.

The sounds of ice chests closing and opening either full of fish or full of beer was common. The wind of the ocean blowing and even though it wasn’t the coolest breeze, it was a nice breeze nonetheless.

As I found a spot in the middle of the peer I looked over and saw the beach full of people. People relaxing and enjoying nature.

As I was standing there looking over into the water and the people enjoying the water/sun all I could think of is how even though we are divided as a country, everyone can agree that R&R is needed.

Once I decided to leave the pier and head down to the beach the breeze stopped. I turned on my music and started heading down to the sandy area. The sound of boats and jet skis getting louder and the smell of salt becoming more and more potent.

Walking in the grass on the way to the sandy beach is a moment I'll never forget. There wasn’t a cloud in the
sky and the water was as flat and as clear as glass. The ocean was multi colored and off in the distance you could see the light blue shallow water drop off into this deep blue abyss.

I stopped and noticed the many different colors and thought that it would be a perfect picture. This is one of the most peaceful moments of my life.

While walking a few passages came up from "Walking" by Thoreau. The passage was, "My spirits infallibly rise in proportion to the outward dreariness. Give me the ocean, the desert, or the wilderness!”

Because seeing the ocean really lifted my spirits and changed my whole mood. I was a bit depressed the week prior and going out and enjoying a perfect day like that was just what my body and mind needed.

Another passage I thought of was, “In short, all good things are wild and free.” That is one of the truest statements I've ever read. When you think about it, there is nothing man made on the beach. All you see is water, the sky, and sand which makes it the purest thing left on this earth.

I took this picture to show the purity of the beach and how the environment can be beautiful if man leaves it alone. You can see where the buildings and roads stop where nature begins.

The last passage I thought about was, "Let me live where I will, on this side is the city, on that the wilderness, and ever I am leaving the city more and more, and withdrawing in to the wilderness.

I thought about this especially looking at the buildings and then looking back to the ocean. The environment must be saved and it starts with us. Hopefully in the future the beaches still look like they do now, but with technology and pollution, there's a chance none of this is here years from now.
