Here's To Flint - Review

Flint, Michigan’s water crisis is one of the most tragic situations to ever happen in my lifetime. The documentary Here’s to Flint explains and shows step by step events that caused the water crisis. This film is very informative and very descriptive of this crisis, and shows how it was all preventable.

The film explains that while Flint was under the State’s control, the water source was switched from the Detroit River and Lake Huron to the highly polluted and corrosive Flint River. The cost cutting move was reported to save no more than five million dollars.

The pictures shown in this documentary of the water was pretty jarring. The orange and brown water coming out of the residents’ bathtub and fossettes was a necessary addition and really helped drive home the crisis.
As someone who lives in Florida, I heard about the Flint water crisis but, like most people, didn’t really look into it and figured the issue would be solved quickly.

Melissa Mays, the founder of “Water You Fighting For” explains that drinking the Flint water caused many health problems for her and her children. She explains that her family had hair loss, rashes and even muscle stiffness.

The Government even allowed General Motors to switch back to the Detroit water system because the Flint water was causing their engine parts to rust.

A secret danger was hidden for months by the State, a high level of trihalomethanes (chlorine) finally came to light and the people of Flint were enraged.

Lee-Anne Walters, a mother of four, her water had lead levels seven times higher than the federal action level.  She found out herself that there was no corrosion control being used on the Flint water pipeline. She has done everything in her power to bring the water crisis to the forefront, and has been told she was crazy and has gotten no responses.

This film shows the people behind the crisis which were the city officials who put the city of Flints lives at risk just to save a mere five million dollars.  Another lie was told to the citizens by city officials, they were told that Detroit were the ones who cancelled the contract and told them to find their water someplace else.

Emergency manager Jerry Ambrose was a villain in this documentary. Overturning the vote to go back to the Detroit water system to protect the citizens from the unusable Flint water. The film has live footage from the hearings showing these officials lying to the people of Flint.  He proceeded to say that Flints water was, “perfectly fine.”

This film is not bias at all, it shows the hell that the people of Flint are living through. It shows the sacrifices that these city officials will make just to save five million dollars. The protests by the people has fallen on deaf ears.

I enjoyed this film, and the information it provides, it should be watched by everyone.
